Lekki Free Zone is a major project conceptualized, licensed and coordinated by the Lagos State Government is promoting the Lekki Free Zone through its Special Purpose Vehicle Lekki Worldwide Investment Limited.

 

 

The history of Free Trade Zones in Nigeria dates back to 1982 when the Federal Government set up a committee to look into alternative source of foreign earnings as against the dependence on oil exports which resulted in te establishment of the Export Processing Zone Act 63 of 1992.

 

Lekki Free Zone comprises 16,500 hectares to the southeast of the city of Lagos, two peninsulas of infinite opportunities bounded by the Lekki lagoon and the Atlantic Ocean. The free zone was launched in 2004 as a vehicle  fully utilize the investment and tourism potential of Lagos.

 

Lekki is a new city under development that will operate in accordance to best international practices, and one of the fastest developing urban areas with an annual economic growth of 16.8%. The Lekki Zone is a multi-use facility with zones for oil and gas, industry, manufacturing, business & financial, media centers, commercial, real estate, recreation and tourism.

 

A strategic plan for a deep sea port and an international airport located nearby the free zone will provide businesses with a global gateway to the regional and international markets.
